She had heard of them, but never before had she actually seen fireflies before. Well, pictures yes, but never in person, and she had no idea what to expect when she'd been invited to come spend a warm early autumn night under the stars. Camping wasn't entirely her thing, she'd never really done it, but the warm crackling fire was nothing short of mesmerizing and comforting and the endless supply of s'mores more than made up for any other discomfort she might have had. Camping wasn't that bad, she supposed. Plus the company was amazing. 

Ruby wasn't overly talkative, she preferred to listen, but she loved hearing the stories. Soon enough everyone moved away from the fire, meandering through the woods until they came to a clearing and Ruby's breath caught in her throat. Thousands of tiny little lights danced around them in a beautiful display. Magical didn't even begin to describe it. She turned slowly, taking it all in, reaching her hands out. The frustrations and short comings of the last few months suddenly didn't matter in that moment. As a tiny bug hovered between her hands, she felt a heat run up her arms and warm her chest. Perhaps she could do this after all. If these tiny little bugs in their short little life could shine so brightly and beautifully, maybe there was hope for her too.
